Originally released as a B-side for “How Soon Is Now?” …but you know i got that jam off Louder Than Bombs. It’d be nice to have on vinyl, though. This is an instrumental, yet how many search results do you get for “oscillate wildly lyrics”? Here’s a hint: not zero.

The Smiths - Stretch Out and Wait [alternate vocal]

This version of “Stretch Out and Wait” recently made the rounds in my circle of Smiths-appreciating friends. It’s not a drastically different version: just some slight lyrical changes and some melodic variations. It’s quite lovely how the song rocks back and forth like a kind of angsty lullaby—stretch out and sleep! I’m not sure if Morrissey is talking about getting it on (“ignore all the codes of the day / let your juvenile impulses sway”) or not getting it on (“stretch out and wait”) or some other forces of nature pushing us around. But it doesn’t matter; for me it’s all about that swaying, oscillating carelessly between meanings and images, this way and that way, this way and that way.

Morrissey abandons show after been smacked on head by crowd missile

A shocked Morrissey brought the UK leg of his current tour to an abrupt halt in Liverpool tonight (November 7) when he walked offstage after a fan threw a drink at his head.

The star said simply “good bye” at the Liverpool Echo Arena following the incident, exiting in the middle of his second song. He had started with The Smiths standard ‘This Charming Man’ and was in the middle of ‘Black Cloud’ when the incident happened…

This story may sound familiar to some of you, but so what?

In 1991, I saw him the day after he played a show on Long Island, where he was tackled to the stage by a crazed fan. He went to the hospital and played the very next night when I saw him at the Garden State Arts Center (now the PNC Bank Center). What a trooper, but um, he was 30-something back then.

According to a report by This Is Wiltshire and numerous accounts by fans online, Morrissey was rushed to the hospital tonight in Swindon, England after collapsing on stage. While finishing the opening song, “This Charming Man,” Morrissey reportedly knelt down, fell to the floor, and was taken off stage by members of his band.

** Update: Morrissey has been admitted to the Great Western Hospital and is in stable condition, according to Sky News.

The house lights then went up and a half an hour later a rep for the venue announced, “Morrissey has left the building,” adding later, “He is seriously ill.”

This post will be updated as soon as more details become available.
